AACC
This Saturday, I popped in (quite late) to the first annual Asian American Comic Con at the Museum of Chinese in America to visit NERD’s very own Ami (Auilix) at her artist table. Though I didn’t get in early enough to visit any of the panels or workshops, the show looked very put-together and impressive. The artist’s room had a rather wide range of comickers, from professionals currently drawing for big Marvel titles like New Avengers to new-ish indie artists doing their first shows. There was some really great stuff there in addition to Auilix’s beautiful mini books and cards.
We got to meet up with Brian Lam, who wrote one of my favorite mini books, Adamantly Amorous Blamworks seems to be currently under construction), as well as his girlfriend, the heroin (of sorts) at the end of the book. We also made friends with Paul Wei, who, although being a published graphic novelist, said he was also doing his first show (and selling his mini for $1!?). Hope to keep up with these cats, as they are very talented local artists.
I’m sure Ami will have a more detailed recap when she updates Glass Urchin, tomorrow, so stay tuned!
