Zombies
Are you concerned that your fire escape leaves you vulnerable to a zombie apocalypse? I’d say that’s why the front door can also be considered the “zombie escape”.

Yes, I’d subscribe to that view.
But as for the fire escape, I’m honestly more worried about the velociraptors.

I think this is a commonly held fear! I’d maybe let in firemen zombies, but still.

that’s only assuming the zombies have good motor function to get up ladders and such. I’m hoping that when it happens, they’re the old, stumbling, falling over, and slow fools of yore. That way you probably wouldnt have to worry about them until they broke in down stairs and shambled up the regular staircase, at which time you could use the fire escape to your advantage to run while they’re trying to get in the other way.

That fire escape in Left 4 Dead can be troublesome.

Commonly held fear. Totally legit.
This is also coming from the man who had childhood nightmares of zombies, hobos, and zombie-hobos flooding his house via an easily-accessible, ground-level basement…

I make sure to keep a crowbar nearby…just in case.
