I am a beacon for mosquitoes, and this weekend (which I spent at my bf&#8217;s family&#8217;s lake house) was no different. Folks were amazed that NJ&#8217;s national bird, the mosquito, had seemed less hungry than usual. In reality, despite dousing myself with bug spray, I was able to feed the entire population of blood-sucking insects in Byrum.</p>
<p>Someone at the 4th of July shindig said that vegetarians tend to attract mosquitoes, as we eat more carbs than most carnivores, and therefore have sweet blood. The logic behind it was so believable, I subconsciously heard buzzing every time I ate toast.</p>
